Description :

Gola Island is a 500-acre island, half a mile off the Gweedore coastline. It has been uninhabited since 1960's.

In recent years people have gone back to the island to enjoy beautiful scenery and the relaxed lifestyle of the island.
People go there to avail of its tranquil setting and are an ideal location for budding artists, bird watching and hill walkers. The island is also ideal for rock climbing and many people visit the island to go camping, which makes for a great family day out.
Gola Island is situated just 1 mile off the coast of Gweedore. This sunny and deserted Island offers you the chance to get away from it all and unwind with the sound of the sea and plentiful bird life. Gola is easily walked in a few hours and offers splendid views of the surrounding Islands, reefs and mainland. The island was populated up until the mid 1960's. Today the only evidence of past life on the island is the stone ruins of what were once houses. On Gola, many of the houses have been recently renovated as interest has returned to the island and its way of life.
