Description :
Donegal Town was originally a plantation town, its central location in the Southwest of the county, at the point where the River Eske enters Donegal Bay, has ensured its development into the thriving commercial centre that it is today.
The attractive centrepiece of the market is known as the Diamond, it is here that you will find a tall obelisk dedicated to the memory of the Four Masters. This was the name given to the four fiars, led by Michael O'Cleary, who in the 17th century complied the Annals of the Four Masters, one of the earliest historical texts recording the early history of Ireland.
