DescriptionStanding on a hill approx 2 kilometres from Raphoe is the enigmatic Beltany Stone Circle. This is one of Ireland's largest and most important stone circles and is believed to date back to 3,000 B.C. A place of ancient ritual the 64 standing stones serve to remind us of a culture that worshipped the gods of the sky, the Sun and the Moon. The Beltany Stone Head, now is the National Museum in Dublin, is believed to have been used in ritual practices at the Circle. A replica can be seen in the Letterkenny County Museum.
